
A skilled cartoonist, Hariom Tiwari, learnt the basics of cartooning from his guru – the legendary cartoonist, late Shri R.K.Laxman– and has since devoted himself completely to this art. He has developed a new stream of cartooning on socio-environmental issues, and has done creditable work in advocacy_based cartooning
Born in the small village of Billowa in the Gwalior district in Madhya Pradesh on 15th August 1968, Hariom has a post graduate degree in soil science from Jawaharlal Nehru Universitry of Agriculture, Jabalpur. His career as a cartoonist spans three decades, starting from his college days in1989, He has worked for reputed newspapers as an editorial cartoonist and has contributed extensively to reputed national magazines. He drew educative cartoonsfor many government and semi-government organizations on the subject of social causes. Important amongst these include Government of Madhya Pradesh Madhyam, National Productivity Council, the Indian Railways, DFID (UK), Tribes India etc….
There are a number of solo exhibitionsto Hariom’s credit, organized across india for which he has won critical acclaim. The first solo exhibition of cartoons was held in 1997 at Madhya Pradesh council of Arts, Bhopal and was inaugurated by the legendary cartoonist, late Shri R.K.Laxman. Hariom’s second solo exhibition was held in 2000 zt Swaraj Bhavan, Bhopal and was again inaugurated by Late Shri R.K.Lazman. Hariom’s third solo cartoon exhibition was organized in 2003 at Madhya Pradesh council of Arts, Bhopal, and was opened by the famous cartoonist , Shri Pran Sharma, of CHACHA CHAUDHARY fame. His fourth exhibition titled “The Tiger Speak” was on the theme of “Save The Tiger” to mark international wild life day and was held at the Artizen Art gallery in New Delhiin 2016. The fifth in the series, again called “The Tiger Speak” was held at Bharat Bhavan,Bhopal on the International Tiger Day in 2016. His sixth exhibition was held at Alliance Francaise de Bhopal in 2018.
Hariom has recieved many awards and felications for excellence in cartooning. In order to promote the art of cartooning and encourage young talent, Hariom has formed the Cartoon Art Society, under which he organizes annual cartooning workshops for school children.
