
Profile of K. R. Swamy.

K.R .Swamy was born in Tirthahalli, a small town
in Karnataka in 1940 and graduated in electrical
engineering from the University of Mysore.
He served as an engineer in Karnataka Electricity
Board for more than 32 years.
Having obtained a diploma from the Raye Burns
School of cartooning, Cleveland, U.S.A., he developed
a flair for cartooning.
Today, he is one of the leading cartoonists in
Karnataka and his works earned him much critical
acclaim.
In addition to his numerous cartoons, over 40, 000
got published in almost all Kannada news papers and
periodicals.
Some of his serial cartoons were extended up to 3 to 4
full pages in special issues.
For some time he was maintaining regular cartoon
columns such as ‘ Suddige guddu’ and ‘ Mathaduva
geregalu ‘in Prajavani and Sudha kannada magazines.
Swamy has also contributed cartoons to some of the
English periodicals like Shankar’s Weekly, Caravan,
Enlite etc.
With his passion for cartooning, he has transitioned
drawing cartoons from black and white era to colour
era.
Swamy concentrates more on non-political subjects
which are easy to understand without context and are
evergreen.
He took initiation in forming the Karnataka Cartoonists
Association, became the founder secretary of
Ķ.C.A and conducted the first conference at Udupi
(Karnataka state).
Conducted Cartoon Exhibition in Indian Institution of
Cartoonists at Bangalore and other places.
He published two cartoon books1)Brahma gantu nage noorentu ( on the subject of
marriage and related affairs, in kannada language).
2)Laughter Dose (A collection of caption less
cartoons).
Swamy also wrote many short stories, humorous
articles and published in Kannada magazines like
Kasthuri ,Sudha, Mayura etc.
