Brief Bio: Associated with cartooning since 1997. First solo cartoon exhibition held in State Art Gallery, Guwahati, Assam, in 2007, which was inaugurated by eminent writer Mamoni Roysom Goswami. Started the first ever mobile cartoon exhibition in Asssam and north east since 2007-2008 under the aegis of Aaranyak. Since then, more than 10 exhibitions held in different parts of Assam including Pagladiya Kala Bithika, Cotton College, Pathasala, Golaghat, Tezpur, Bongaigaon etc. First cartoon collection titled AARCHI(The Mirror) Published in 2010 by Jyoti Prakashan, Guwahati, Assam. His latest work ‘Rekhare Kathare’ is a collection of poems composed by six eminent poets of assam viz Sameer Tanti, Nilim Kumar, Sourabh Saikia, Pankaj Gobinda Medhi, Pranab Kr. Barman and Jogen Tide based on his thirty cartoons. Published by Rekha Prakashan, Guwahati this book has the cover page with cartoon drawn by Assam’s first political cartoonist and noted film-maker Pulak Gogoi. He has also conducted several workshops on cartooning in several parts of the state.
He has also collaborated with Dr. Anamika Roy Memorial Trust (ARMT) to publish an illustrated interactive book on infodemic during COVID19 pandemic titled “Break the Fake Toons” in 2020. Further, in collaboration with ARMT, he worked on another multimedia guide for mass awareness on COVID19 titled COVIDKATHA which has been published by National Council for Science & Technology Communication, DST, GoI in 2020.
During COVID-19 lockdown period in 2020, he joined hands with SUBHAM, an NGO based in Barpeta, Assam for a campaign called ‘Your photo can bring a smile’ to collect funds through caricaturing to help around 200 economically backward families of the district.
He has also been part of a few national level exhibitions, which includes ‘Cartoon Exhibition in Memory of Gauri Lankesh’ held at India Press Club, New Delhi and ‘First International Cartoon against Ukraine Crisis’ organised by India Toons. His cartoon on Assam floods has also been used to raise a good sum of money for helping flood affected localities in Majuli island as well as Kaziranga National Park.
Although a political cartoonist, Nituparna Rajbongshi also draws cartoons on various other subjects like anti superstition, wildlife, environmental, socio-economic and cultural issues. He is presently contributing as a freelance cartoonist in various vernacular newspapers, magazines and web megazins and through his website www.cartoonistniituparna.org.
Apart from cartooning, Nituparna Rajbongshi also worked as a reporting journalist and writer. As a journalist, his area of interest includes legal issues, investigative journalism on witch hunting, environmental, human rights and socio-economic issues.
Awards & Fellowships: 1. GNRC Media Fellowship for the year 2012. His chosen subject was Health Care of the poor in the North East.
