Irfan was born in a simple family in Gwalior and took up cartooning quite early in life. He is 56 today and has had a career spanning over 30 years. He has worked with almost all the leading newspapers and news channels of the country.

He pioneered the concept of live political cartoons on electronic media in India. His cartoons have appeared on leading Indian news channels like ABP News, Zee News, Sahara Samay, and NDTV India. He is the first cartoonist who makes live political cartoons on the spot during news coverage of elections results across the country.

He has advocated for saving girl child, raising awareness about global warming, and encouraging people to vote. In 2010, he was given the prestigious Kaka Hathrasi Award by the Hindi Academy, Delhi Govt.
