
ROSSEM
Rossem or real name Rosidi Semail, born 1948 in Kota Bharu, Kelantan, Malaysia, has a graphic diploma from a university in Kuala Lumpur. Started cartooning in 1970, in 1978 the cartoon was first published in the popular Malaysian newspaper “Utusan Malaysia” for 15 years (1978-1993). 1993 -2001 worked as the editorial cartoonist of The Sun (Malaysia) newspaper in Kuala Lumpur. Cartoons are drawn about political and social criticism.
The year 2000 was chosen to represent Malaysia at the Asian Cartoon Exhibition organized by the Japan Foundation for Asia Center in Tokyo, Bangkok, Jakarta, Singapore, Manila. Ever won the award for best consumer cartoonist organized by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Malaysia (1995). Malaysia’s best cartoonist (2000). Kelantan Employee Award in the editorial cartoon category (2013). Next is the Malaysian Cartoonist Award 2017 by the Malaysian Cartoonists Club / Malaysian Cartoon and Comics House (RKKM) on 1 April 2017.
Involvement at the international level, on March 1, 2017 organized an international caricature exhibition (International Caricature Exhibition) in Kota Bharu. Followed by the International Cartoon Exhivition 2019 on 21 February 2019 at Rossem Cartoon House, Kota Bharu and the 2020 International Cartoon Competition / Exhibition with the theme “save Our Herittage” on 1 August – 30 September 2020 at the Kelantan Art Gallery, Kota Bharu.
Participate in international cartoon exhibitions organized by various countries around the world. Also involved with the jury comitte, the last jury comitte “The First International Contest Writers Cartoon 2020, Syria”.
Having its own cartoon and comic gallery (Rossem-BKR Cartoon Hall) in Kota Bharu, Kelantan, is open to visitors. In addition to Rossem’s work, selected works from cartoonists all over the world are also on display.
